Privacy Policy — Skein

Last updated: May 28, 2026

Skein is a browser extension that helps you organize chats across ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini — with folders, a prompt library, full-text search, and export. This policy explains what data Skein handles and how.

What data Skein collects

Skein stores chat metadata locally in your browser: conversation titles, URLs, platform identifier, folder assignments, and short text snippets. It also stores folders you create, prompts you save, and UI preferences (such as which sections are collapsed).

The export feature reads the content of the currently open AI conversation page to generate a downloadable Markdown file. Skein delivers that file directly to you — it does not store conversation content.

Where your data is stored

All data is stored exclusively in your browser's chrome.storage.local. Skein does not operate any server, and your data is never transmitted to the developer or any third party.

No account required

Skein has no registration, no login, and no user account system. Everything works offline-first, inside your browser.

No tracking or analytics

Skein contains no analytics, telemetry, or tracking code of any kind. It does not set cookies. It does not collect usage data.

Third-party services

Skein does not communicate with any external services. It runs entirely within your browser.

Permissions

Skein requests the following browser permissions, and uses each only for the stated purpose:

Data deletion

Uninstalling the extension removes all locally stored data. You can also clear the data at any time through your browser's extension settings.

Children's privacy

Skein is not directed at children under 13, and does not knowingly collect data from them.

Changes to this policy

Updates will be posted on this page with a revised date. Continued use of Skein after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
